LETS RIDE - THE SHORT STORY
"FOR YEARS, MY response to anyone who asked me about a solo record was pure and simple....... "NO".... Fast forward to 2010.... I was awakened by 2 words @ 6 am and the conversation went like this...... "IT'S TIME"...... "TIME?...... TIME FOR WHAT."......."FOR YOU TO DO YOUR RECORD"......"LOL!!!! REALLY"....... It was an undeniable voice that I couldn't say "NO" to it was the voice of GOD..... An immediate level of Peace left me speechless and without worry and I said " OK.... I TRUST YOU.... LET'S DO THIS" - John Dillard

There are so many times that we wonder why this guy doesn’t have a CD out to go with all of his great performances. We see them locally and wish we could take something home. Such is the case for bassist John Dillard. He has been the bass player for so many A list players who come to town. No matter who is here, you can almost always count on John to be there to throw down the bottom line. His premier release called Let’s Ride is highly anticipated and show cases the talents of several more artists. Each song stands on it’s own as they are themed towards the title.
If you love bass as much as I do, then I’m sure you’ll want to take a ride with John Dillard soon. This local native has brought in a great listing of “friends” to be with him on his first journey. Be sure to check it out soon and enjoy something new of all original material. You will be glad you did.
- Harvey Cline
There’s a ton of appeal in this well-produced album. At a time when many c-jazzers are bemoaning the “same ol, same ol” sound that is unfortunately becoming more and more prevalent, Dillard offers a breath of fresh air sure to contribute to the life of the genre.
Obviously taking his time and allowing his creative juices to simmer just long enough before releasing this project, Dillard has afforded himself the best opportunity to join the heavyweights who strive tirelessly to take this genre to even higher ground. Wonderful debut. – Ronald Jackson
SMOOTH JAZZ DAILY:
John Dillard's Let's Ride is solid like a rock. His album is enriched with a great sweep of musicians, so no boredom comes up, even if he uses his bass often as a leader. The professionalism of all is also consistently stellar.
